  Health Care For Pregnant Women  
  During pregnancy taking health care of pregnant women becomes very important. What should be done and what not to do needs to be explained to her clearly in order to maintain the health and wellbeing of the child and the woman herself. The pregnant woman should also take precautions and directions from learned people so as to avoid complications during her pregnancy.

Health Care For Pregnant Women By Doing Regular Checkups
As soon as a woman comes to know that she is pregnant, she should visit her family doctor. Give him all the information about her health. After doctor's examination follow his advice. Get herself  register at a good maternity hospital. Visit doctor regularly for routine check ups. Do not hide anything from the doctor.

Exercising During Pregnancy
If growth of the child is proper and the pregnant woman has no other physical problems, then there is no harm in doing normal exercises. But while doing these exercises see to it that she does not get tired. There are some special exercises to strengthen her  back, belly etc. Breathing fresh air and exercising helps in keeping the body healthy. Doing daily work at home is also a kind of exercise. But do not lift heavy objects.

Rest and Sleep During Pregnancy
Pregnant women get tired quickly and hence arrangements should be made so that she can rest for a while. She needs 8 hours sleep during night and 2 hours during the day. When the delivery date comes near a pregnant woman should sleep for 10 hours at night and 4 hours during the day. That is, she should rest for 14 to 16 hours a day. There are benefits in sleeping flat on the floor and placing your feet high. Never bend your knees while sleeping. Also do not turn your knees while sitting. Doing so will cause your legs to swell due to poor blood circulation.

Many pregnant women find difficult to sleep. That is they suffer from insomnia. So they take sleeping pills. It is dangerous to take sleeping pills during pregnancy. Consult your doctor at the earliest.

Bathing During Pregnancy
It is recommended that a pregnant woman bathe in a tub. She should take care while getting in or getting out of the tub. Be careful so that she does not slip. She should thoroughly clean her private body parts with warm water.

Type of Clothes and Footwear to be Worn by Pregnant Woman
A pregnant woman should wear clothes that are suitable and comfortable for her body. She should not wear clothes that makes her feel irritated. Wear night gowns when at home. Use appropriate size bras. Do not wear shoes or sandals with heels. Wear flat shoes to maintain body balance.

Avoid X-ray During Pregnancy
Exposure to X-ray is harmful to fetus. Unless very critical avoid X-rays. A pregnant woman should consult her doctor before getting exposed to X-rays.

Traveling When Pregnant
There is no harm if a pregnant woman travels. But utmost care should be taken while traveling. Every two hours the pregnant woman should get up and walk for some time. Avoid air travels.

Worrying About Delivery
A pregnant woman should seek proper guidance if she fears about her delivery. Take doctors help and get herself educated regarding pregnancy and delivery. Read good books.

Maintaining Physical Relationship During Pregnancy
Having physical relationship during pregnancy is not at all a problem. But during last 4 weeks of pregnancy stay away from it. Women with chances of having to do abortion should stay away from having physical relationships.

Smoking During Pregnancy
Women who smoke find that their newly born child has small shape and is less in weight as compared to those who do not smoke. Delivery is not easy for such women. Children of such women have breathing problems. They can also be handicapped or have heart problems.

Drinking Alcohol During Pregnancy
Consuming large quantity of alcohol may result in a handicapped child. Defect can be seen on the face and fingers of such child. Nose may be flat or small, jaws are flat, etc. So it is better to avoid alcohol during pregnancy.

Delivering Baby at Home
Choose a room with proper air ventilation and light. Bathroom should be close by. For the woman who is about to deliver must have enough space to roam around. Throw unwanted things out of the room. High raised bed is convenient for doctors during delivery. Keep all things ready which a doctor thinks are necessary for delivery.

Emergency Delivery
Pray, such a thing does not happen. But if such a condition arises keep the following things in mind:
1) Do not panic at all. It's natural.
2) Clean your hands thoroughly before touching the vagina of a pregnant woman.
3) Ask her to calm herself and apply force at the right time. Clean the baby with soft and clean towel.
4) Wrap the baby in a clean piece of cloth. Do not cover his face.
5) Cut the feeding tube with scissors and allow the fluid to flow out.
6) Do not touch the vagina of the woman who has just delivered.
7) Let her take rest. If she wants some hot drink let her have it.
